Quizon will join local surfers Coco Ho, Carissa Moore and Tatiana Weston-Webb in the third round.
Hawaii’s John John Florence defeated Australia’s Kai Otton 16.33 to 15.33 during the third round of the Quiksilver Pro France on Saturday in Landes.
Hawaii’s Keanu Asing lost to Brazil’s Italo Ferreira 13.60 to 13.10.
Florence is the lone Hawaii surfer remaining in the contest.
Hawaii Hilo golfers finish in top half
Hawaii Hilo’s Kristen Sawada finished tied for fourth at the St. Martin’s Invitational women’s golf tournament Saturday in Olympia, Wash.
Sawada finished at 156 after posting a final-round 80 at Olympia Golf & Country Club.
Hilo finished fifth in the nine-team tournament at 675. St. Martin’s won with a 631.
Hawaii teams complete invitational
The University of Hawaii women’s cross country team placed four runners in the top seven en route to victory at the Chaminade Invitational on Saturday at Kapiolani Park.
Hawaii Pacific’s Johanna Apelryd won the 5-kilometer race in 18:21.9.
The Rainbow Wahine were paced by Montana Martinez’s second-place finish in 18:23.4.
Hawaii finished with 27 points and was followed by HPU (38), Brigham Young-Hawaii (58) and Hawaii Hilo (114).
In the men’s event, Hawaii Pacific’s Jacob Alplund won the 8K race, crossing in 27:13.3.
The Sharks took the team title, finishing with 25 points, while BYUH had 34 and Chaminade finished at 76.
Hawaii Hilo picks up four-set road victory
Marley Strand-Nicolaisen had 16 kills and Morgan Lees added 14 as the Hawaii Hilo volleyball team beat Point Loma Nazarene 25-22, 25-22, 15-25, 25-23 on Saturday in San Diego.
Sienna Davis recorded 37 assists for the Vulcans (5-5, 3-4 PacWest).
Heather Leavitt finished with 26 kills and Savannah Wedemeyer had 40 assists for the Sea Lions (8-8, 3-5).

Jacob McRae scored at 23:49 as the Brigham Young-Hawaii men’s soccer team beat California Baptist 1-0 in Riverside, Calif.
Jaden Epplette made two saves for the Seasiders (4-6, 2-3 PacWest).
The Lancers fell to 4-6-1 and 3-3.

Local PacWest teams lose on the road
The Hawaii Hilo women’s soccer team had just one shot on goal in a 3-0 loss to Dixie State on Saturday in St. George, Utah. Freshman goalkeeper Teani Teanio tallied 14 saves against a Storm offense that racked up 33 shots in the match. Jasmine Arollo, Kaisa Rogers and Alexis Torres scored goals for DSU, which improved to 5-5-0 overall and 3-3-0 in the PacWest. The Vulcans fell to 4-2-3 overall and 3-2-0.
