Police are investigating a report of a second-degree sexual assault that occurred on the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus earlier this morning.

The UH-Manoa Public Safety Department issued an in-house email to students and faculty saying the alleged sexual assault occurred in student housing.

According to the department’s email alert, the male suspect’s ethnicity is described as African American; height, 6 feet 4 inches, with a slim build; and short black hair.

The suspect was known to the female victim, according to the email alert.

Anyone with information should call UH Public Safety at 956-6911 or Honolulu police by dialing 911.

UH spokesman Dan Meisenzahl said university policy prevents him from providing further information, including whether the man is a student.

Meisenzahl said the UH Department of Safety the Honolulu Police Department are pursuing the investigation. The UH Manoa Department of Public Safety is not law enforcement operation.
