Man accused of decapitating mom found incompetent for trial
MADISON, Wis. » A Wisconsin man accused of beheading his mother with a sword last month has been found incompetent to stand trial.
In court today, 40-year-old Matthew Skalitzky did not challenge a psychiatric report that found him incompetent. A prosecutor also did not challenge the findings.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports that as a result, the first-degree intentional homicide case against Skalitzky could be delayed for up to a year. A judge will review Skalitzky’s progress every three months.
Skalitzky has been kept at Winnebago Mental Health Institute near Oshkosh on a civil commitment since shortly after Sept. 11, when authorities say he attacked and killed his mother, 68-year-old Jane Skalitzky.
Prosecutors say Matthew Skalitzky is severely mentally ill and saw people, including his mother, as inhuman clones.
