A 24-year-old Napili man was charged for attempted murder after stabbing his mother Friday morning, Maui police said.

Major Akana was charged for second degree attempted murder and felony abuse of a family or household member.

Maui police officers responded to a report of a stabbing victim on Friday at 7:47 a.m. at a home in Napili.

The 50-year-old female victim was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical injuries with life threatning injuries.

Akana’s bail is set at $1,005,000.
