Man charged with attempted murder in Kihei park stabbing
Maui police have charged a 49-year-old man with attempted murder in connection with a stabbing in a Kihei park on Sunday afternoon that left a Kahului man in critical condition.
Police arrested Robert Kimo Prout, who did not provide a local address, shortly after 11 a.m. today and later charged him with second-degree attempted murder and contempt of court. He was being held at the Wailuku police station this afternoon, with bail set at about $1 million.
When officers responded to a report of a stabbing in Waipuilani Park at about 3:55 p.m. Sunday, they found the 36-year-old victim, but the suspect had fled the scene. The victim was transported from the scene to the Maui Memorial Medical Center. A subsequent investigation led to Prout’s arrest.
This afternoon, the victim’s condition was described as “critical, life-threatening,” according to a Maui County Police Department news release.
