Man charged with refusing to leave house, threatening to burn it
Hawaii County police charged a 49-year-old Pahoa man who refused to leave a Hawaiian Beaches house Friday and allegedly poured a flammable liquid and threatened to ignite it.
Police arrested Keith Kaapana Cummings on Friday. Cummings was charged Saturday with second-degree terroristic threatening and first-degree reckless endangering. His bail was set at $2,500.
Police had gone to the property to serve him with a protective order, but he refused to leave and allegedly threatened to ignite the flammable liquid, police said.
No one else was home at the time.
Police evacuated homes in the area.
The police Special Response Team negotiated with Cummings and got him to surrender without incident, and a Hawaii County Fire Department fire inspector deemed the house safe.
