A 20-year-old Kaneohe man was arrested late Sunday in a hit-and-run crash after he allegedly injured two people on a motor scooter in Kaneohe.
Traffic investigators said the suspect was driving a gray 1998 Toyota on Kahekili Highway near Kahuhipa Street at about 8:30 p.m. when he went around a stalled vehicle and ran into a red motor scooter carrying two people.
Both people were thrown from the motor scooter and suffered head and internal injuries. The 45-year-old driver was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition. His passenger, a 37-year-old woman, was taken to Queen’s in serious condition.
Neither victim was wearing a helmet.
The 20-year-old driver of the car was not injured, and allegedly fled the scene, but police said his girlfriend persuaded him to turn himself in.
He was later arrested at his home for failure to render aid.

Police belie witness account of fatal crash
Traffic investigators Monday said there was only one vehicle involved in the pedestrian death of a homeless man early Friday morning near Mapunapuna and classified the case as a traffic fatality.
Lt. Carlene Lau, police traffic spokeswoman, said homeless people in the area after the 1:30 a.m. accident “have been giving a lot of misinformation to both the police and the media.”
“After an initial investigation and review of the evidence, there was no second vehicle who ran over the body.”
Sean Duyser died of blunt force injuries to his face, head, neck and torso, the medical examiner said.
A witness, a homeless woman, told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that after the the pedestrian was run over on Kamehameha Highway near Kakoi Street under the airport viaduct, she tried to warn another driver against running over the victim, who lay in the road.
The second driver failed to respond to her waving a flashlight in the middle of the road, ran over the man’s head and continued driving, the witness said.
However, Lau said the driver of a van involved remained at the scene. The case has been classified as a traffic fatality, and no negligent homicide investigation involving the driver of the van has been initiated.
The crash happened near where an offramp from the H-1 freeway and Nimitz Highway merges with Kamehameha Highway.
It was Oahu’s 41st traffic fatality of 2015, compared with 50 at this time last year. No arrests have been made.
Man arrested after assault of paramedics
A 32-year-old Kalihi man is in custody after he allegedly assaulted two paramedics early Sunday morning who had responded to a 911 call.
The suspect was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center at about 1:20 a.m. when he allegedly assaulted an emergency medical technician in the back of the ambulance.
Another paramedic got out from the front of the ambulance and went to the aid of his colleague and also was attacked, police said.
The two paramedics were unable to continue working, and the ambulance was taken out of service until the next shift reported to work at noon, police said.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of two counts of second-degree assault.
