Fire investigators are trying to determine the origin of a fire that destroyed a Nanakuli home Wednesday night that left five adults and eight children without a home.

When firefighters arrived about 8:35 p.m. at 89-200 block of Palikea Road, the single-story house was fully engulfed, fire officials said. Ten fire companies with 32 firefighters responded to the 8:31 p.m. alarm.

The fire was brought under control at 9:18 p.m. and fully extinguished by 10:29 p.m.

Homeowner Jen Halemano said there were 12 people in the house at the time of the fire and all got out safely.

She said they would be staying with family members.

Damage to the one-story home was estimated at $140,000 to the structure and $20,000 to its contents.
