Coast Guard personnel evacuated an injured 43-year-old man from a Norwegian gas tanker about 100 miles from Oahu on Friday.
The tanker, which was traveling from Panama to South Korea, redirected its course toward Hawaii and was met by an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew, which brought the man on board around 3:30 p.m. He had a serious eye injury.
The man was transferred to paramedics at Barbers Point and taken in stable condition to the Queen’s Medical Center.
Officer hit during traffic stop
Police were searching Sunday for a man suspected of driving into a police officer in Waikiki.
The incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. when the male driver sped off during a traffic stop and injured a 37-year-old male officer, who was treated at a hospital and released.
Police have opened a first-degree attempted murder investigation.
