Former University of Hawaii athletic director Jim Donovan has received a five-year contract extension as Cal State Fullerton’s athletic director.
The extension, which will take Donovan through 2020, was announced by CSUF President Mildred Garcia on the school’s website.
Donovan left UH in 2012 after being reassigned in the wake of the Stevie Wonder episode and was hired at CSUF.
“Jim is an inspiring leader whose commitment to the academic and athletic success of our student-athletes has been a catalyst for positive culture change in Titan Athletics and throughout the diverse communities we serve,” Garcia said. “As Jim often says, ‘Athletics is the front porch of the University,’ and I look forward to welcoming many new generations of Titans and Titan fans under his superb leadership.”
Donovan is a former UH football player and his son, Joshua, plays on the 2015 Rainbow Warriors.
“I’m very grateful to President Garcia, Vice President (Berenecea Johnson) Eanes and so many others on campus for their support of Titan Athletics. We’ve made very positive progress in the past three years — with the highlight being a return to the College World Series this past summer,” Donovan said.
