Free “AgCurious” seminars, for people interested in trying their hand at farming, are coming up soon at Leeward and Windward community colleges.

The introductory sessions are a way to sample GoFarm Hawaii, a 10-month, non-credit program designed to help aspiring farmers learn the craft and get launched. The goal is to develop new farmers who can sustain themselves as well as the community.

AgCurious sessions will be held Nov. 10, 6-8 p.m., at Leeward Community College, Kaala Room GT-105, or Nov. 12, 5:30-8:30 p.m., at Windward Community College, Hale Akoakoa Building.

Irma Rios attended an AgCurious session in March after reading about it in a newspaper article. She enrolled in the program and graduated from AgSchool at LCC, landing a job as the farm and garden manager at Camp Mokuleia in Waialua.

“I believe that this is a valuable program and it has helped me tremendously in my career path,” she said, urging others to give GoFarm a try.
