NEW YORK >> Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. is planning a theme park around the blockbuster movie franchise “The Hunger Games.”

The New York Times said a park has been licensed for development in Atlanta, to open by 2019. An indoor entertainment center also is planned, for Hengqin, China, for 2018.

Fans already can interact with the story through attractions such as the travelling display “The Hunger Games: The Exhibition,” now in Discovery Times Square in New York. An immersive theatrical show is to open in London next summer, and a theme park with a “Hunger Games” zone debuts in Dubai late next year.

The franchise’s finale, “Mockingjay Part 2,” is set to hit the big screen this month.

Selfie sticks bother some critters

VIENNA >> Austria’s top zoo has bad news for visitors who want to get up-close photos of some animals: No more selfie sticks.

The Schoenbrunn Zoo says smartphones on selfie sticks could disturb its Humboldt penguins and South American sea lions, when poked into their enclosures. The animals could even take a nip at the phones.

Selfie sticks will be allowed for other animals whose enclosures are set back farther.

Prices up at SeaWorld, Busch

ORLANDO, Fla. >> SeaWorld Orlando and Busch Gardens Tampa are increasing single-day admission prices.

Adult admission for both parks rose by $2 to $99 last week. Tickets are $94 for children younger than 10. Discounts are available when purchasing advance tickets online.

SeaWorld also announced that parking costs will increase by $1, to $18.

The increases come several months after admission prices rose at Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando.

SeaWorld’s annual passes remain unchanged at $156. The park is offering a $30 discount through Jan. 5 which reduces the cost to $126.

Busch Gardens’ 2016 Fun Card is still available for $99 and can be used for the remainder of 2015 for no additional cost.
