Three freshmen from Hawaii contributed to the hugely successful Idaho women’s soccer season that came to an end on Sunday.
Midfielder Megan Goo (‘Iolani) and forwards Kayla Watanabe (Mid-Pacific) and Summer Kaneshiro (‘Iolani) all played in at least 17 games for Idaho, which set program records for goals, assists, points and shutouts.
The Vandals finished 14-4-3 after losing in penalty kicks to Northern Colorado in the Big Sky title game and went undefeated at home.
The 14 wins also tied a program record.
Watanabe, who started 20 of 21 games, was named to the all-tournament team and assisted on the Vandals’ lone goal in the 12th minute against the Bears.
She finished the season fourth on the team with five goals and tied for fifth in points with 15 while scoring one game-winner.
Goo also played in all 21 matches, making three starts, and had one goal and one assist. Kaneshiro played in 17 games.
