A high-surf advisory is in effect for eastern shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island until 6 p.m. on Monday due to a large east swell combined with strong trade winds.

Surf is expected to reach 7 to 10 feet along the affected shores, according to the National Weather Service.

The public is advised to expect strong breaking waves shore break and strong currents that could make swimming dangerous.

A high-pressure system northeast of the state is expected to produce strong trade winds through Monday.

The winds will diminish by Monday night but another round of trades should return Wednesday and continue into the coming weekend, the weather service said.

Increased moisture is expected to move over the islands from the southeast beginning on Wednesday, and then continue into next weekend, bringing increased showers that may become locally heavy.
