Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil is another of my favorite one-stop skin treatments for when I’m on the run and traveling light. It’s a hand cream, face moisturizer and treatment for dry patches. The product is about purity, with cold-pressed oil from the nuts of Moroccan argan trees — no fillers. The skin just drinks it in. I particularly love using this oil at work in place of hand cream because there is no greasiness to hinder my grip on the phone or my ability to manipulate a mouse. Find Josie Maran’s argan oil at Sephora, where a half-ounce bottle is $16. At qvc.com a set of five sells for about $54. If you’re as addicted as I am, that’s a good deal. — Joleen Oshiro
Biscuits pack in pineapple flavor
Chefs know that people eat with their eyes first — who can resist eating something that looks so cute? Happy Pineapples fall into this category. These pineapple-shaped sandwich biscuits have a smear of pineapple jam between the crisp, buttery crackers so you get the pineapple taste without being overwhelmed by it. A 4-ounce bag costs $1.75 and a half-pound bag is $2.99 at Rainbow Craft Seed in the Windward City Shopping Center. Call 235-5553. — Michelle Ramos
Dean’s serves up hearty plate lunches
If you’re in Kaneohe looking for a plate lunch, look no further than Dean’s Drive Inn, owned by "local boy" Dean Mishima. The Surf and Turf plate ($13.95) featuring two ahi cakes drizzled in a chili aioli sauce, tender teri beef, brown or white rice, plus your choice of soup, mac salad or tossed greens, will hit the spot.
Though Dean’s Drive Inn was featured on Food Network’s "Diners, Drivers & Dives" last summer, it’s still a down-to-earth place with friendly service. Since being featured on the show, though, the eatery has relocated to 45-270 William Henry Road, doubling its space and adding a drive-up window for takeout orders. Find Dean’s on Facebook or call 247-1300. — Nina Wu
Handy tote spreads holiday cheer
This is one checkout-counter impulse buy I don’t regret: A holiday-themed tote bag for $12.95 with purchase of any item at Barnes & Noble at Ala Moana Center. (It’s $24.95 without purchase.) The sturdy cotton-polyester bags are printed to resemble Fair Isle knit patterns in reindeer (red), fir tree (green), snowflake (blue) and bow (white and gold) designs, with a pompom and jingle bell charm. A flat, oval bottom means there’s plenty of room for books and Christmas presents. — Christie Wilson
Frosty dessert bears sweet treats
An ice cream cake is a delight in itself, but imagine the look on your kids’ faces when you cut into this adorable snowman and miniature M&M’s come pouring out. Baskin-Robbins can convert any of its 8-inch-diameter dome-shaped cakes — baseball, bumblebee, Santa or chick — into a pinata cake that is said to feed six to eight, though we cut ours into 10 thin slices, for $29.99. Check out the cake, ice cream and design choices at baskinrobbins.com, then call one of the 16 locations on Oahu and specify you are ordering a pinata cake. — Donica Kaneshiro
