Thanks to a record-breaking performance last weekend, Rainbow Wahine senior Erin McNulty’s summer plans will include a trip to Nebraska to swim in the U.S. Olympic Trials.
McNulty made the trials cut in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1 minute, 0.68 seconds at the Hawaii Swimming Senior Championships at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex. The standard to qualify in the event is 1:01.19. McNulty’s time also set the long course Hawaiian open record.
The Olympic Trials are scheduled for June 25 to July 2 at the Century Link Center in Omaha, Neb. The top two in each event qualify for the Summer Games in Rio.
McNulty claimed bronze in the 100-yard butterfly and swam on two victorious relay teams to help the Rainbow Wahine capture UH’s first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation team championship last March.
The UH men’s and women’s swimming teams are in Monterey Park, Calif., this week to compete in the three-day A3 Performance Invitational.
