College football championship games are still weeks away, but in Hawaii the high school championship games for Division I and Division II are scheduled for today, and if you know Hawaii high school football, you know these two games will be intense.
However, unless you have pay-per-view TV, or are willing to watch them as reruns on Saturday, you’ll have to make your way to Aloha Stadium — but that’s not a bad thing because that’s where the emotional impact of the games will definitely be most felt.
The first game — the Division II match between Kapaa and Radford — starts at 4:30 p.m.
The second game — the Division I championship featuring Kahuku and Saint Louis — starts at 7:30.

Chinese Navy to get some aloha
Even in the midst a dispute between China and the U.S. over navigating the South China Sea, three Chinese navy ships are scheduled to stop in Honolulu on the last leg of an around-the-world deployment.
The details will be announced later, but the welcome by the U.S. Navy will be warm, for good reason. Mutual understanding and good relations between the two naval powers can prevent misunderstandings — or worse — later.
It would be helpful if such practical thinking could be applied by adversaries elsewhere — in Washington, D.C., for example. Or even at Honolulu Hale.
