There’s life after Wo Fat for Mark Dacascos, the islander who played the villain in CBS’ "Hawaii Five-0" till his untimely demise in the 100th episode of the Alex O’Loughlin-led reboot of the procedural. Dacascos now has a major recurring role as Mr. Giyera, head of security in ABC’s "Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." He made his debut Nov. 17. …
Jason Momoa, the former Honolulan, has been cast in a 2016 Netflix series, "Frontier," a drama set amid the 18th-century fur trade, with native tribes sparring with Europeans in bloody battles. Momoa will portray Declan Harp, a somewhat ruthless trader driven by revenge and lust. Landon Liboiron co-stars in the streaming series, set for six episodes, with production scheduled in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Ontario in Canada, and Cornwall in the U.K. …
NAMES ‘N’ PLACES: Actor Samuel L. Jackson, here to film "Kong: Skull Island," a Legendary Pictures project (details have been minimal), dined a couple times in the breakfast hours at Zippy’s Hawaii Kai, according to two waitresses. "He was sort of incognito," said one server. And nope, she didn’t ask "What’s in your wallet?" — a reference to his Quicksilver Capital One credit card commercials. …
An encore screening of "Jim Nabors‘ Impossible Dream," the first-ever bio on the entertainer best known for his "Gomer Pyle" character, airs at 9 p.m. today on KHNL. And apologies: in a Nov. 13 review of the show, I misnamed the show’s writer. He is Robert Pennybacker, the usual scriptwriter for producer Phil Arnone‘s TV specials. …
‘TOMMY’ TUNER: Manoa Valley Theatre’s "The Who’s Tommy" boasts a terrific ensemble interpreting Pete Townshend‘s upbeat score with true rock-opera octane. Kyle Malis as Tommy leads the cast, making you see it and feel it with intensity to spare. James Mares as Cousin Kevin, Timothy Jeffryes as Uncle Ernie and Alison L.B. Maldonado as The Gypsy are memorable secondary characters. Melina Lillios inspires her five-member combo to play like a full-on orchestra. Only miscue: The lack of a legit, light-up pinball machine to enhance the sizzle of the storytelling. …

ELSEWHERE: Joy Abbott, the sometimes Honolulan, is wintering in Miami after taking in the Mr. Abbott Award presentation in New York. The honor is named after her late husband, the prolific actor-writer-director George Abbott ("Damn Yankees," "The Pajama Game," "Fiorello!"). Songwriter-lyricist Stephen Sondheim presented the award to playwright-librettist-director James Lapine ("Into the Woods," "Falsettos," "Sunday in the Park With George") and Bernadette Peters, Marin Mazzie, Jesse Taylor Ferguson, Christian Borle, Vanessa Williams and Elizabeth Ashley were in attendance. …
