Hot-shooting Rainbows improve to 4-0

Hawaii raced out to an early lead and never trailed, beating Nicholls State 99-74 in a men’s college basketball game Sunday.

Stefan Jankovic scored 22 points and Aaron Valdes had 20 as 4,388 watched UH improve to 4-0 and at the Stan Sheriff Center on Star Wars Night. The visiting Colonels from Thibodaux, La., fell to 1-2, and were led by Ja’Dante’ Frye who scored 27 and T.J. Carpenter with 25.

Jankovic led UH’s early blitz with seven points in the first three minutes, and Sai Tummala’s 3-pointer made it 15-6 before the first media timeout.

The Rainbows steadily built the lead, and a 3-pointer by Mike Thomas made it 54-28 at halftime.

Hawaii had a hot shooting night, and dominated the low post despite two Nicholls State players listed at 7-feet.

Stefan Jovanovic scored 13 points and Mike Thomas and Roderick Bobbitt each added 11 points for Hawaii.
