Chaminade outside hitter Keani Passi and BYU-Hawaii setter Ying Chun Chen were named to the All-PacWest first team, as voted by coaches in the Pacific West Conference.
Passi is the first Silversword to receive first-team accolades since Trina Kauliakamoa earned three straight from 2006 to 2008. Passi, a former JUCO Player of the Year and University of Hawaii transfer, finished second in the PacWest in kills, averaging 4.29 per set. Her kill average and season total (489) set school records in the rally-scoring era.
Chun, whose first-team selection was the third of her career, was also named the conference Setter of the Year. She concluded her career as the school’s record holder in career assists, aces, service attempts and sets played.
Chaminade middle blocker Daisia LaBrie was named PacWest Freshman of the Year, and also earned conference honorable mention.
LaBrie led the conference in hitting percentage at .389, 37 points higher than the next closest player, and is the first freshman to lead the PacWest in hitting percentage in a decade. She also set program records with 103 total blocks and 91 block assists.
Hawaii Pacific’s Elizabeth Culpepper and Pomai Recca, and BYU-Hawaii’s Sinamoni Tonga also received All-PacWest honors. Culpepper, a senior outside hitter, was named to the second team. Recca, a junior outside hitter, and Tonga, a sophomore opposite hitter, were named to the third team.
