Benefit event helps give toys to keiki

The newly opened Bloomingdale’s Ala Moana is hosting a benefit event with the Hawaii Polo Club for Operation Toy Box, an annual drive to raise funds and toys for needy families on the North Shore.

The store event will take place 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 3 in Bloomingdale’s Men’s Apparel (third floor) with cocktails, savory bites and DJ tunes. Ten percent of the proceeds of all Polo Ralph Lauren purchases will be donated to Operation Toy Box.

The Operation Toy Box polo match will take place 2 p.m. Dec. 6 at Mokuleia Polo Field. Gates will open at 11 a.m. for picnics. Admission is $12 for open field seating and $25 for the clubhouse area.

Attendees are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy to be distributed to keiki. For each person who brings a toy, general admission will be half-price, $6. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Operation Toy Box to support the distribution of the toys.

Seminar offers tips on self-branding

Valerie Joseph boutique owner Valerie Ragaza-Miao will be hosting "Suit Yourself: The Power of Self Branding," a workshop to help those interested in marketing themselves and their careers.

The session takes place 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Honolulu Design Center Cupola Theater.

One of the first steps of self-branding is establishing the right image and learning how to create a signature look for yourself that connects to your inner and outer personality and your lifestyle, according to Ragaza-Miao.

Her interactive presentation will help attendees identify, define and translate their style with talks by New York Fashion Week show producer Lynne O’Neill and local beauty expert Paul Brown.

Low tea service will follow in Stage Restaurant, hosted by tea connoisseur and fashion designer Michele Henry.
