Hawaii County police have identified a 58-year-old Kailua-Kona man who died after swimming at Kealahou Bay on Friday as Gregory Crisafi.

Kona Patrol got a call at 3:45 p.m. that Crisafi was swimming on the north side of the bay when he appeared distressed and called for help, police said.

Two Oregon men tried to help Crisafi, but one of them, a 62-year-old man from Bend, Ore., got into trouble himself in the water.

The other man returned to shore to get help.

Police said a Kona man on a fishing boat pulled the two men onto his boat and used cardiopulmonary resuscitation until Fire Department medics arrived and transported them to Kona Community Hospital.

Crisafi was pronounced dead at 4:46 p.m. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death.

The Oregon man was treated for minor injuries.
