A man in his 40s sustained burns to his arm Tuesday while trying to extinguish a cooking fire in a garage in Ewa Beach.
Firefighters responded to the two-alarm fire on Keaunui Drive about 6:20 p.m. and found an extinguished garage fire in a two-story single family home, said Honolulu fire Capt. David Jenkins.
Seven people were home at the time, and the man was hurt while fighting the fire, Jenkins said.
Firefighters treated the man and transferred him to paramedics.
Firefighters determined the fire was caused by unattended cooking and estimated it caused $5,000 damage to the garage.
