Man accused of sex assault of 2 hikers appears in court
Bail has been kept at $891,000 for a man accused of sexually assaulting two teens who had been hiking in Hilo.
The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports 36-year-old Oran Charles Kita made his initial appearance in Hilo District Court Monday. He faces several charges, including sexual assault, terroristic threatening and kidnapping.
Court documents say the alleged victims, ages 17 and 19, told police they had been hiking near Piihonua Bridge on Dec. 22 when they were approached by a man who told them there was a waterfall in the area. They said they were led to a remote area, where the suspect brandished a knife, tied them up and sexually assaulted them.
Both teens identified Kita in separate photographic lineups.
Kita is to appear in court today for a preliminary hearing.

These feral pigs must be eradicated.
good one. Ha!
Walking pathogen.
As usual, the courts out here will fail the victim.
Easier to blame the victims than deal with the criminals. Oh wait, I forgot, according to Thos, rapists aren’t criminals.
Leave, allie. Please just simply leave.
Don’t be so mean. I may work for KS. But in any case, I start my final semester at UH soon….
Waste of time going to college. Just become a janitor for the government with lots of benefits.
Put the perp away. He should have some fun in the slammer.
He will be someones girl friend for sure.
If he is still alive.
Halawa please. No vacation to Arizona. Hard time — Halawa. Where I would not be surprised if he suffers a brutal, unexplained death.
In Iraq, he would be stoned in public with small stones, as not to perish to soon.
In the societies that you are alluding to, the female victim would be more likely to be stoned to death than the rapist.
Jail cell will be provided with a new broomstick. I wonder why?
It’s so thoughtful of you to donate yours.
That would be a toothpick…
