Police seize 2,200 pounds of illegal fireworks in Waipahu
Police seized 2,200 pounds of illegal fireworks Wednesday in the Waipahu area, according to a Honolulu Police Department news release.
Officers received a tip, which led them to the stash of illegal fireworks, police said.
Also, police arrested a 44-year-old Kapalama vendor on Wednesday for allegedly selling firecrackers to a plainclothes officer.
The vendor allegedly sold the fireworks to the officer, who did not present a valid permit.
Police continue to urge residents to report suspicious or illegal fireworks activity to police.
Anyone found selling, possessing or using illegal fireworks could face up to five years in jail and/or a fine of up to $10,000.

Maybe they held on to them from when they were legal. I am so sick of them going off late at night ever since Thanksgiving. These people are so rude!

A class C felony charge would seem to be appropriate for a 1000 kilo seizure.
And they should seize the sellers property. Storage and disposal is going to be a costly. remember Waikele, State of Hawaii, will watching very carefully how disposal work will be done.
