A year of sports in pictures

Although the Oahu Color Run in Kalaeloa is not much of a competitive running event, it’s an event that the runners have the most fun in participating. Along the route, the runners are doused with a non-toxic colored powder. It is promoted as a healthiness and happiness run by bringing the community together to participate in the “Happiest 5K on the Planet.” At the route’s end, the runners go crazy and douse themselves with more colored powder. On Nov. 7, I saw Theis Dam, Pelle Oelholm and Patrick Sahlen, all from Denmark, taking a selfie of themselves in front of the mob of runners throwing powder into the air. The winners of the events don’t always make for the best photos. The frenzy surrounding the event can be most memorable.

This shot was a combination of luck and concentration, and that the action is never over. Being diligent and being ready are the paramounts I live by in sports photography, and this is an example that I’m really happy with. Kapaa’s Leighton Moniz lost possession of the ball at the goal line during the first half of the HHSAA Division II Football Championship between the Radford Rams and the Kapaa Warriors on Nov. 20 at Aloha Stad

This photo was taken of Aukai Lileikis on June 30 after he qualified for the Olympic swim trials. I captured this unusual angle by standing at the edge of the pool and holding the camera over Leleikis as he swam by during his warm-up session at the Kailua District Park pool.

Island Insurance was shooting a commercial on July 16, which featured Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota. At 6 a.m., I’m sure Mariota would have been happier bodysurfing at Sandy Beach, but that day was for work.
