A 46-year-old man remained in custody today, awaiting charges for assaulting a police officer who was investigating a fireworks and loud party complaint last night in Palolo, police said.

While holding an alcoholic beverage on the sidewalk, the suspect, of Kaneohe, started challenging the 43-year-old officer when he arrived to investigate the complaint about 10:50 p.m., police said.

The man allegedly assaulted the officer as he was being arrested for a liquor violation.

Police arrested the man on Waiomao Road for investigation of first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer and consuming liquor in public.
