A sewage leak closed Hoapili Hale, the Maui Circuit Court building, in Wailuku on Tuesday.
A spokeswoman for the state Judiciary said court sessions will be rescheduled, and documents that were due in court Tuesday will be considered timely if filed by the close of business today.
The building shut down at noon, and maintenance crews shut off all water, state Judiciary spokeswoman Tami Mori said in a news release. The break in the sewer pipe was found, and affected areas of the courthouse were disinfected, she said.
Hoapili Hale is scheduled to reopen this morning.
Man crushed by branch dies
A 29-year-old man died Monday after being crushed by a large branch while cutting a tree in North Kohala, Hawaii County police said Tuesday.
He has been identified as Andrew A. Ankner, who had no permanent address.
Ankner was trimming a tree on a Keokea Park Road property. At about 3:20 p.m., while he was up in the tree about 20 feet from the ground, a branch he had cut fell on him and pinned him in a fork of the tree, police said.
Fire Department personnel extricated him, and he was flown by fire helicopter to North Hawaii Community Hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead at 7:56 p.m.
The case was initially classified as a public accident but was later reclassified to a coroner’s inquest.
An autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death.
