What has to date been known only as the “Las Vegas Arena” is now officially the T-Mobile Arena. The wireless giant has secured naming rights for the 20,000-seat sports, concert and events venue owned by MGM Resorts International and AEG that’s being built behind New York-New York and is slated to open April 6.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed, except that the yearly fee is less than $6 million (name-sponsorship deals often reach $10 million annually). T-Mobile says that it intends to be active in the promotion of events, using its wireless reach to provide ticket presales and upgrades, along with other incentives, to its customers.
And as you’d expect, the company promises that cellphone service from inside the arena will be first-rate.
Hyde overhead: In other arena news, it’s been announced that Hyde Lounge, already a staple on the Bellagio nightlife scene, will be the exclusive club option at the T-Mobile Arena. Two platforms will extend over the floor to provide unencumbered views as well as a more intimate “lounge experience.”
Prime surprise: Want a great prime rib? This one will surprise you, but the Italian restaurant Little Tony’s at Palace Station serves an excellent rosemary-and-garlic preparation on Thursdays for only $15.95, or a “Flintstone” cut for $18.95. It comes with a salad, and add-ons, like spinach or a baked potato, are just $3 extra. It’s the best prime rib deal in town for under $20.
Beer price hike: If you’re watching the NFL playoffs in a Station Casinos sports book, it’ll cost you a little more for a beer. The price of Bud or Bud Light sold from the sports book carts has gone up to $2.50 from $2. Hot dogs are still $1.
Question: I was just at Aria, and they were shooting a movie with Matt Damon. Do you have any details?
Answer: The unnamed movie will be the fifth installment in the “Bourne” series. Filming has been going on all over town, and this week a portion of the Strip will be shut down for a car-chase scene. Watch for the movie later this year.
