Strong quake strikes off Mexico; no tsunami threat
A strong earthquake off the coast of this morning does not pose a tsunami threat to Hawaii.
The magnitude 6.6 quake struck at 8:06 a.m. Hawaii time, 134 miles southwest of Tomatlan, Mexico at a depth of 6.2 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
After analyzing the available earthquake data, officials at the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no tsunami threat to Hawaii and nodestructive Pacific-wide tsunami expected.
Jalisco’s Civil Protection agency said via Twitter that the temblor was felt in several municipalities, but it had no reports of any people being hurt or damaged buildings.
