A California woman is recovering after falling 50 feet down a steep embankment and off a 15-foot cliff in Maui’s Iao Valley.
Maui County firefighters said in a news release Friday that the woman was unconscious for about 30 minutes after the fall at about 3:25 p.m. Thursday.
Thick forest prevented a helicopter from reaching her.
Firefighters rappelled down and found her conscious, with a hiking companion.
They treated her for head injuries, secured her in a rescue basket and pulled her up via a rope system to Iao Valley Road, where paramedics took her to Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition at 5:38 p.m.
