Of the largest 150 U.S. markets, Honolulu ranks 82nd among the best and worst cities in which to get married, according to a new study out today.
Figuring in average wedding cost, number of venues, event spaces per capita and availability of hotels among a total of 18 factors, personal finance site WalletHub ranks Orlando, Fla., as the best U.S. city in which to get married. Orlando is followed by Las Vegas, Nevada; Atlanta, Ga., Tampa, Fla. and Springfield, Mo.
The worst cities in descending order are No. 146, Anchorage, Alaska; Worcester, Mass.; Newark, N.J., Yonkers, N.Y. and No. 150, Moreno Valley, Calif.
Honolulu’s average wedding cost of $41,486 was ranked No. 147, just ahead of San Francisco, Oakland, and Fremont, Calif., which are tied for having the highest average wedding cost. The national average is $26,444.
Honolulu’s high number of flower shops per capita ranks third in the nation, behind Miami and Orlando, Fla., which are tied for having the most.
Honolulu didn’t make the top five for Best WalletHub weather rank. Those spots went to Glendale, Riverside and Bakersfield, Calif., respectively, followed by Scottsdale, Arizona and, in fifth place, Henderson, Nevada. The worst weather rank went to Buffalo, N.Y.
Not enough Japanese couples visiting Waikiki? Mainlanders would rather stay close to home and invite their friend to their weddings. Flight costs also do not favor the islands.
True but many younger Japanese couples prefer to get married overseas to avoid the high costs of traditional Japanese hotel weddings where local custom always includes obligatory invitees and expensive hotel food/drinks.
That photo above… There are tons of homeless in that area. Would have put a huge damper on their wedding, I’d imagine.
I agree with you–the SA could have gotten a number of wedding pictures on the beach facing Diamond Head. One newspaper city!!!
