In its first action of the season, the Brigham Young-Hawaii softball team was swept by Augustana (S.D.) 13-5 and 6-1 on Tuesday at BYUH field.
In the first game, Maggie Kadrlik and Shannon Petersen each drove in four runs and Carley Pickett allowed one run in five innings for the Vikings.
The Seasiders’ Lizabelle Talataina batted 3-for-3.
In the second game, Karlee Koopman pitched a six-hitter and Pickett drove in two runs for Augustana.
BYU-Hawaii’s Kalynn Latu had two hits.
The Vikings moved to 5-1, while the Seasiders fell to 0-2.
Slater surfs to Volcom Pipe Pro title
Florida’s Kelly Slater beat three surfers from Hawaii in the final of the Volcom Pipe Pro on Tuesday on the North Shore.
Slater, an 11-time world champion, posted a two-wave total of 16.56.
Jamie O’Brien scored a 9.94, Makai McNamara had an 8.90 and Bruce Irons recorded a 6.73.
Seasider men lead at Fazio Course
The Brigham Young-Hawaii men’s golf team shot a 288 to take the first-round lead at a tri-match on Tuesday at Turtle Bay Fazio Course.
Chaminade is second with a 298 and Hawaii Pacific is third at 305.
The Seasiders’ Inoka Kahawaii is in the lead at 2-under-par 70.
