Rain, vog and wind expected for Punahou Carnival, Super Bowl weekend
A weather system approaching the state will likely bring vog, rain and wind for the Punahou Carnival and Super Bowl weekend.
Winds will likely turn southeasterly by Friday, bringing some vog over Oahu ahead of the weather system.
There’s a chance of some afternoon showers over leeward and interior sections because of daytime heating Friday.
The cold front will move over Kauai late Saturday afternoon and quickly move down the island chain, bringing rain and blustery winds from the northwest and north.
It might be a good idea to bring an umbrella and a sweater to the carnival Saturday night.
Showers are likely over Oahu Saturday night as the front passes. Cool north winds will also bring chilly conditions.

“Overnight temperatures will be cooler than what we’ve been used to,” said Matt Foster, a meteorologist with the Honolulu office of the National Weather Service.
The cool temperatures at night will likely stick around through the beginning of next week.
The winds are expected to be gusty even after the front passes.
Saturday’s forecast calls for northwest and north winds blowing at 20 to 30 mph, gusting to 45 mph.
For those planning outdoor Super Bowl parties, the gusty winds are expected to continue Sunday.
There could be some morning showers, but skies should mostly clear by the afternoon.
Expect light winds, mostly sunny days and cool nights on Monday and Tuesday.
There’s a possibility of another cold front reaching the islands on Wednesday.

Punahou carnival wouldn’t be the same without the rain! Like it or not, wet, cold weather and hot malasadas are synonymous to fun and enjoyable time at this annual money making project .
so true every year. never stop any of us from going
I would rather give my money to a non-profit that serves the poor.
The promoter of the carnival and the company that is providing the rides better take note of this picture. Cell phones or any hand held things should be a mandatory no-no and are not allowed on rides. Better post warning signs before they go on the rides. An accident waiting to happen. A cell phone slips away from a rider on the swing and a projectile type component flies at the head or the eyes of an innocent bystander. Go figure what comes next.
Free phone?
Eh??? But without my phone, how am I supposed to text the person sitting next to me to let them know I’m having fun?
Rain and wind have been expected during Punahou carnival week for the last 3 or 4 decades. Everyone who has lived here for a while knows to never wear your new white Nikes to the Punahou carnival.
Rain? Really why would that stop anyone no go to the Punahou Carnival it’s just rain and cool temps. I live in Minnesota and we go outside when it’s 20 degrees and also when there’s 8 inches of snow on the ground and 20mph winds blowing.
Back in the day of late 60’2 and 70 when I went to Maryknoll Elementary and High School, we always had a blast at the carnival and ate da ONO malasadas made by da aunties(one of them was my neighbor)got some free.
