Everywhere you look, you’ll see the rascal monkey popping up in retail spaces in celebration of the Lunar New Year and those born in the Year of the Monkey, who are described as being intelligent, lively, quick-witted and versatile.

For starters, Kate Spade at Royal Hawaiian Center is offering a monkey frame cross-body bag of cowhide with 14K gold-plated hardware, $398.

Bloomingdale’s is also celebrating the Year of the Monkey with the Chinese red envelope tradition. Envelopes will be distributed by hostesses on the first floor, at one per person, between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Feb. 11-13 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 14. Select envelopes will be filled with prizes such as a Bloomingdale’s bMoney card in lucky denominations of $8, $88 or $888. Throughout the store, look for monkey- themed merchandise ranging from houseware items, hats and a Gund Curious George plush toy ($15) to an Estee Lauder limited-edition Gold Night Repair formula ($92) with a Year of the Monkey key ring.
