The fourth-ranked University of Hawaii water polo team completed its run in the Bruno Classic with a split against Marist and Hartwick on Sunday in Providence, R.I.
UH extended its winning streak to eight with an 11-6 win over No. 20 Marist in its first match of the day. Freshman Irene Gonzalez scored five goals and Julia Barton and Nikki-Marie Bell added two each in the win.
The Wahine win streak ended with an 11-7 loss to No. 17 Hartwick. Bell led UH with three goals and Femke Aan scored twice. UH closed the tournament, hosted by Brown, at 5-1 and 10-2 overall.
Sharks women’s tennis team victorious
Hawaii Pacific women’s tennis team defeated Cal Poly 4-0 on Sunday morning at the University of Hawaii Tennis Complex. The Sharks (1-0) won the doubles point by winning all three of the doubles matches, then won the first three completed singles matches to get the team win.
HPU returns to the courts and will face UH Hilo on Feb. 14 at Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park, with first serve at 10 a.m.
Vulcans softball team falls
Victoria Garcia’s two-run homer in the second inning wasn’t enough offense for Hawaii Hilo as the Vulcans fell 5-2 to Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday in Las Vegas.
UH Hilo pitcher Danielle Wilson shut out the Otters through the first four innings before two runs in the fifth tied the game. Cal State Monterey Bay (5-2) scored twice more in the sixth and then added an insurance run in the seventh. The Vulcans (2-3) travel to Cal State San Bernadino for a Wednesday doubleheader.
