Hawaii County police arrested a 9-year-old boy at a charter school in Kau today after allegedly finding a suspicious device in his backpack.
Police got the call at 10:15 a.m. that a student at the Kau Learning Academy in Discovery Harbor had a pipe bomb.
Officers learned school officials found the suspicious device in the boy’s backpack.
Police arrested the boy on suspicion of possessing an explosive device. He was released to a family member.
Police notified the FBI, the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Detail on Oahu, the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Hawaii County Fire Department.
