Police are looking for a man who tried to abduct an infant from a vehicle Tuesday in Kalihi.
The man opened the door to a vehicle stopped at a traffic light near Kamehameha Shopping Center, reached in and attempted to grab the infant about 6:20 p.m., police said. The mother was holding the baby in the back seat at the time.
The man fled the scene. Police opened an attempted-kidnapping investigation.
Arrest made in homeless shelter stabbing
Police arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder Wednesday night after a stabbing at a homeless shelter in Waipahu.
Police were sent to the Lighthouse Outreach Center on Leokane Street about 7 p.m. after the staff reported the man stabbed his wife in the back, according to police radio communications.

Pedestrian killed in crash is identified
Hawaii County police have identified the 38-year-old man who died Sunday from injuries suffered when he was struck by a pickup truck on Kawaihae Road as Jacob Freebairn of Kamuela.
An autopsy conducted Wednesday showed that Freebairn died from accident-related injuries.
Police received a call of an accident at 1:13 a.m. Sunday. Officers found that a 2010 Nissan Frontier pickup truck had been traveling west on Kawaihae Road near the Door of Faith Church when it veered across the highway and struck Freebairn, who had been walking eastbound on the shoulder of the roadway.
Freebairn was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:20 a.m.
The truck’s driver, a 27-year-old Kapaau man, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree negligent homicide and released pending further investigation.
9-year-old boy arrested over possible bomb
Hawaii County police arrested a 9-year-old boy at a charter school in Kau on Wednesday after allegedly finding a suspicious device in his backpack.
Police got a call at 10:15 a.m. that a student at the Kau Learning Academy in Discovery Harbor had a pipe bomb.
Officers learned that school officials found the device in the boy’s backpack.
Police arrested the boy on suspicion of possessing an explosive device. He was released to a family member.
