Authorities Monday charged a 32-year-old homeless man who tried to evade police after he was stopped in Kunia driving a stolen car.

Pekelo Sanchez was charged with car theft after a manhunt Sunday. His bail was set at $35,000.

Officers pulled Sanchez over at 10 a.m. at the Kunia Walmart because of several traffic violations.

However, the suspect fled, but crashed the car in a Kunia field and tried to escape on foot.

The suspect was caught several hours later on Kunia Road and police discovered that the car he was driving had been stolen.

Sanchez was also being sought on an outstanding warrant for a probation violation.

  • Is it really necessary to ALWAYS publish these incidences as HEADLINES? Can’t S/A create a POLICE BLOTTER section–for those who want to follow these criminal incidences. REALLY, this is not NEWS that I want to read, per se. It disturbs my morning-constitution(s)…

  • Find out if he is from Hawaii, If not deploy him back to his homeland and let them worry about him. He is a threat to the people of Hawaii. He must be smart because if there were no keys, that means he had to hotwire. Smart homeless guy.
