Reef runway to close for maintenance work

STAR-ADVERTISER / JAN. 2015

An F-22 took off from the Honolulu airport reef runway in Jan. 15. The Department of Transportation said runway maintenance on runway 8R-261 will run from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Wednesday through Saturday.

Honolulu Airport’s reef runway will be closed for maintenance work for four nights beginning at 10 p.m. Wednesday, which will mean increased air traffic noise over Ewa and downtown.

The Department of Transportation said runway maintenance on runway 8R-261 will run from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Wednesday through Saturday.

During the closure, flights will be redirected to other operational runways, which will alter their flight paths. This may increase air traffic noise over the Ewa Plains and downtown Honolulu during the closure hours.

One response to “Reef runway to close for maintenance work”

  1. Hotel says:

Honolulu airport “noise restriction” rules mandate that all departing aircraft stay one mile south of Magic Island. Passengers on departing flights affected by this runway closure can “expect” an “immediate right turn” as soon as the landing gear is stowed. Should be a “fun” departure.
