University of Hawaii men’s golfer Skye Inakoshi tied for first with three other golfers with 210 strokes at the John Burns Intercollegiate on Friday at Wailua Golf Course on Kauai. The Rainbow Warriors finished with a team score of 881.
Texas clinched the tournament at 20-under with 844 strokes, followed by California (849) and Texas A&M (863).
UH earn 2 swim golds at championships
University of Hawaii swimmers Yuri Samouilich and Franziska Weidner earned gold in the men’s and women’s 200 freestyle on Day 3 of the MPSF Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday in Los Angeles. Weidner, a sophomore, broke the meet record with her time of 1:46.23. Samouilich finished with a time of 1:34.67.
In Pasadena, Calif., Hawaii’s Aimee Harrison clinched the gold in the 3-meter dive with her score of 329.15, while teammate Lauren Hall secured the silver. Amund Gismervick won the silver medal for the men’s 3-meter dive.
Vulcans sweep in PacWest opener
The Hawaii Hilo women’s softball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat BYU-Hawaii 3-2 and easily clinched the nightcap 10-0 on Friday in Hilo.
The Vulcans (10-5, 2-0 PacWest) scored their first run in the third inning on an error and Cristina Menjivar and Bailey Gaspar homered in the sixth inning to secure the win. Cyanne Fernandez earned the win on the mound, while Meghan Wantz took the loss for the Seasiders (2-8, 0-2 PacWest).
Hawaii Hilo continued its momentum into Game 2, scoring seven runs in the first inning. The Vulcans’ Billie Derleth allowed just two hits in the five-inning shutout.
HPU’s Uehara receives weekly honor
Hawaii Pacific senior Shawna Uehara was named National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association Player of the Week announced Friday. The Kamehameha graduate competed in three of four compulsory heats, two of three acro heats, and all three pyramid heats for the Sharks.
HPU defeated Azusa Pacific and fell to Oregon on the road last week.
