Salim Gloyd scored 38 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 48 seconds remaining, as the Hawaii Hilo men’s basketball team beat Hawaii Pacific 87-84 on Saturday at Moanalua High School.
The Sharks’ Connor Looney missed a late go-ahead 3-point attempt, and Gloyd hit one of two free throws with one second remaining for the final margin.
Nate Walker had 22 points and Gloyd added 10 rebounds for Hilo (8-14, 8-10 PacWest).
Jordan Martin scored 20 points and Looney added 17 for HPU (17-8, 12-6).

Kuany was 10-for-11 from the field for the Silverswords (10-14, 8-9 PacWest).

Sharks women’s basketball tops Vulcans
Cece Pearl scored 18 points and Breanna Mackenzie added 16 points and 14 rebounds as the Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team beat Hawaii Hilo 58-47 on Saturday at Moanalua High School.
Aminata Cole had 13 rebounds for the Sharks (16-9, 13-5 PacWest), who held a 55-31 advantage on the boards.
Lauren Hong scored 18 points for the Vulcans (9-14, 9-9).

The Seasiders improved to 11-12 and 8-10 PacWest.

Hawaii Hilo softball sweeps BYU-Hawaii
The Hawaii Hilo softball team picked up a pair of mercy-rule victories over Brigham Young-Hawaii on Saturday at UHH Softball Field.
In the first game, Danielle Wilson scattered nine hits and Victoria Garcia scored three times in the Vulcans’ 9-1 six-inning victory.
In the second game, Billie Derleth pitched a two-hitter and Amanda Lara homered and drove in five runs in Hilo’s 12-0 five-inning victory.
The Vulcans improved to 13-5, 4-0 PacWest, while the Seasiders dropped to 2-10, 0-4.

In the first game, Kristen Caskey pitched a six-hitter with eight strikeouts and Kayla Sanchez batted 2-for-3 with four RBIs in the Sharks’ 9-1 six-inning victory.
In the second game, Luana Moreno pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts and Kiana Ulufale homered in the Silverswords’ 6-0 win.
Both teams are 3-5 this season.
Hawaii Pacific, Felician split in baseball
Ethan Kalin pitched seven solid innings and Reid Akau scored twice as the Hawaii Pacific baseball team beat Felician (N.J.) 7-3 to earn a split of a doubleheader Saturday at Hans L’Orange Park.
Kalin allowed three runs — one earned — with seven strikeouts over seven innings. Kyle Detwiler and Brandon Bonilla each worked a scoreless inning.
Ronnie Grant had two RBIs for the Golden Falcons.
In the first game, Ralph Caccavale hit a go-ahead two-run double in the eighth inning of Felician’s 9-6 victory.
HPU’s Tyler Tokunaga batted 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
The Sea Warriors are 7-1, while the Golden Falcons are 2-1.
McCarney, Barry to speak at QB Club
Lori McCarney, the chief executive officer of Bikeshare Hawaii, and Bob Barry, a USATF masters discus thrower and retired ‘Iolani boys soccer coach, will speak at the Honolulu Quarterback Club on Monday at Maple Garden Restaurant.
Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. and costs $16. The public is invited.
