STAR-ADVERTISER / JULY 2012

Colt Brennan was released from the police cell block before leaving in a car driven by attorney Michael Green.

For the third time, the Circuit Court jury trial of former University of Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan for allegedly filing a false police report has again been deferred because he is still being treated for a head injury from a traffic accident.

The Circuit Court trial, initially postponed on Sept. 28, was set to begin Tuesday before Judge Christine Kuriyama. However, it was again continued to April 11 because Brennan’s lawyer said the football player was in treatment, according to the prosecutor’s office.

In August, attorney Michael Green entered a not guilty plea for Brennan, who was not in District Court, to filing a false police report, and requested a Circuit Court jury trial. The Circuit Court trial was scheduled for Sept. 28, then postponed on Dec. 7 and rescheduled for Feb. 29.

Police said Brennan reported in June that his car had been stolen from his home. Police later found his car near a Kapiolani Boulevard bar. Officers looked at surveillance video and saw that Brennan was the one who parked the car and abandoned it.

In August, Green blamed a head injury from a 2010 vehicle crash for causing memory problems for Brennan that led to the recent misdemeanor charge, punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $2,000.

Green said the “trauma-related injury that goes back to his car crash” was to blame for Brennan reporting to police that his vehicle had been stolen. Brennan has no memory of parking his car, but police “have some video he parked it,” Green said. “It’s a misdemeanor, but it’s sad.”

In March 2014, Brennan told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser he had been diagnosed with traumatic head injury. He said the condition was caused by the two-car crash on Nov. 19, 2010, on Hawaii island. Brennan, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, was hospitalized for eight days with injuries to his head, ribs and collarbone.

In July 2013, Brennan pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol. He was fined $300. He was pulled over in Kailua in 2012 for speeding, and police said he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.17, more than twice the legal limit.

Why waste taxpayer dollars with a trial? Its obvious that the defense will win as Colt was diagnosed with a traumatic head injury. Is it hard to believe that he really forgot where he parked his car? Reasonable doubt. Come on, use some common sense.

Agree. This guy is sad sack with his messed up brain. Just drop the case and move on. If in the future, like Riki Karamatsu, either Brennan or Riki actually kill someone because of drunk or reckless driving, then throw the book at them and let them rot in jail. Hawaii judges are so lax, unless someone actually gets killed, the sentence will just be probation so what is the point the trial? And what about Christopher Deedy and Kaneshiro’s promise to try Deedy for a third time? Let that one go as well.

        Feel better about yourself?

just accept that when it comes to football, a) you don’t know what you’re talking about; b) your hero Norm Chow was a loser; c) June Jones and Colt Brennan were winners who brought us a WAC championship and undefeated season. nobody’s perfect, including you. your trolling comments are as much a disgrace to yourself as Colt’s felony was to him. but he was given a second chance, and was able to rise above it, at least for a time. pity you can’t do the same.

Sad to see him going through his life in such a manner. Colt overcome the negatives of your young life and turn it around like how you did in so many games coming from behind. You have that ability to do it in real life and not only on the playing field.

Please look at all your positive attributes and start working on the positives so that you can do great things for people again. Sometimes doing it for others can kick start your journey again to make your life and those around you better. In the long run you are the captain of your ship.

If you want to feel sorry for someone and wish better days ahead, I would FIRST consider physician Theresa Wang whose life was destroyed by Brennan and his girlfriend Shakti Stream who crossed the center line in their SUV and left Wang permanently disabled leaving her only with a lifetime of disability, pain and suffering. Stream was the driver and like Riki Karamatsu in his first DUI, claimed their vehicle had a mechanical failure, but don’t believe that for a minute. It is not clear what Brennan and Stream were doing at the time they smashed into Theresa Wang’s car but where this guys goes, bad things happen. Just hope that if his chosen path is self destruction, he does not take down anymore innocent people

agree. Every excuse you can imagine was given this guy. He was coddled throughout high school because he was a football player. He was a total failure in the pros but at the UH he was already a fail in a minor league program. The embarrassment with Colt is not over by any means.

  3. Shawn211 says:

Typical of his lawyer Michael Green, come-on Colt MAN-UP !!!!!! and be responsible for once in you life !!!

Who cares??? This is “Top News”??

  5. Racoon says:

What was the purpose of abandoning your car in a parking lot and reporting it stolen? Insurance fraud? What’s the logic here? Hard up for money?

  6. wlsc says:

choices. your choice is you. unfortunately, some not too good choices. but, not too late to start making good choices.

  7. GorillaSmith says:

It’s amazing how the same sad guy who claims to hate UH sports never misses a chance to drop multiple hate-filled comments on these pages. Poor Colt is the unfortunate object of his venom today.

  8. lokela says:

Waste of time and money. Been years since the accident and nothing has changed. If she hasn’t already Wang should just sue him and his then girlfriend.

  9. iwanaknow says:

    Sad, sad, sad.

  10. roninsensei says:

Maybe June Jones or someone else in the UH family can help him get his life back on track. He needs some help and I wish him the best.

  11. Riamondred says:

He galvinized the State like I’ve never seen before.

    At least give him that.

    • cojef says:

Sad that he is trying to re-live his past by way of alcohol. It’s easy for us to advise what he can do but he has to search out his demons and solve it himself, soon!

  12. HOSSANA says:

This is just a ploy by his attorney to get Colt out of this predicament. This is nothing but a “CROCK” on the attorney and Colt in facing up to the charges and taking responsibility. Enough is enough already. Just throw his rear end in jail and let him get treatment while incarcerated instead of this delaying tactics.

  13. Shotzy says:

Heh Colt, People, Places, Things…..need to change dude. Thanks for a wonderful Senior season, it was a keeper for sure.

  14. Jonathan_Patrick says:

If O.J. got away with it, so can Colt. I am an ordinary citizen, so if someone told me to do something, I comply, unless it’s an unusual request, like going into Governor Ige’s office and asking for his autograph and a selfie.
