Jury convicts woman, 45, of manslaughter in Bishop Street beating death
A state jury found Kimberly Udo guilty this morning of manslaughter in the 2014 beating death of a homeless woman in Downtown Honolulu.
Sandra Wollaston, 46, died after getting into a fight with Udo, 45, on the sidewalk fronting Ninja Sushi restaurant on Bishop Street.
Udo’s lawyer Miles Breiner argued that Wollaston’s lifestyle of drug and alcohol abuse and living on the streets led to her death. Breiner told the jury Wollaston died after suffering heart attacks before the fight happened and after she fell during the fight.
Deputy Prosecutor Scott Bell said Wollaston died of blunt force injuries to her head and neck.
The jury will return to court on a later date to decide whether Udo deserves a penalty higher than the maximum 20-year prison term form manslaughter. If the jurors do find Udo deserving of a higher penalty, the court could sentence her to life in prison.

scary…homeless crimes way up…
I thought the only scary place was the big Island.
OOooo and all the time I thought we were just trying to catch up to O`ahu’s crime rate.
The SA is full of stories of violence, 95% from Oahu. I certainly feel safer walking the streets of any of the neighbor islands than walking through Honolulu or the back streets of Waikiki.
I agree, but allie thinks the big island is the scary place.
Good decision by the jury to find for manslaughter and not buy Breiner’s claim that the victim died of a heart attack which was a lot of bull to begin with.
Hope the jury decides the defendant deserving of a 20 year term and the judge agrees and does not place the defendant on probation which would truly be an injustice.
The real prison term will be decided by the Hawaii Paroling Authority which determines the minimum prison time, the defendant will need to serve before becoming
eligible for parole.
Do you remember a case where 3 Mokes beat up a guy in Waianae, and he died of a heart attack. Surprised they got off with a lighter sentence. A good lawyer was able to convince a jury that it was true or a manslaughter deal was struck. Laughed when a the relative came to the courthouse and screamed and wailed at the injustice and shame of being accused. Now it’s the other way around. Try not to get emotionally involved. Justice is a fickle lady.
agree
she must’ve pulled some ninja sushi on the poor homeless lady 🙁
The, guilty should be punished for causing the death of another regardless of the victim’s status. Justice has often favored the insiders with little regard to the established law.
