Excessive speed was a factor in a motorcycle crash that killed a 20-year-old Kaneohe man on Sand Island Access Road on Tuesday night, police said.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified the driver as Malik Baxter and said he died of multiple blunt trauma injuries. The manner of his death was ruled an accident.
Police said Baxter was ejected from the 2015 Suzuki GSXR motorcycle he was driving just after 6:30 p.m. He was traveling south on the road when he lost control while going into a curve in the roadway near Mokauea Fishing Village.
He struck a fence and a light pole and was taken in critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center, where he died.
It was Oahu’s sixth traffic death this year, compared with 11 at the same time a year ago.
