Hawaii GOP continues counting votes, but Trump’s victory assured
Hawaii Republican officials are expected to continue counting so-called “provisional ballots” that were cast during Tuesday night’s Republican caucus, but the outcome is unlikely to change Donald Trump’s GOP victory in the islands, officials said today.
Trump received more than 42 percent of the votes and — with 2,043 provisional ballots still to be counted — is expected to keep his win, said Andrew Walden, the GOP’s caucus chairman in Hawaii.
“I’ve looked at the proportionality and it would be unlikely that the proportionality’s going to change,” Walden said.
Trump was followed by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, with more than 32 percent, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who received more than 13 percent, and Ohio Gov. John Kasich at more than 10 percent.
The Republican Party allowed people to cast “provisional ballots” in polling sites where they were not registered Tuesday night.
Republican officials hope to finish counting the Oahu provisional ballots and post updated numbers tonight on the party’s web site. Neighbor island provisional ballots are expected to arrive Thursday and be counted by Friday, if not sooner, Walden said.

With the 2,043 provisional ballots that were cast, 15,420 Republicans voted in Tuesday’s caucus — about a third more than participated in the 2012 caucus.
”It’s because of Mr. Trump,” said Kimo Sutton, Trump’s Hawaii campaign representative who was monitoring the provisional ballot count today at GOP headquarters on Kapiolani Boulevard. “If you take away the Trump supporters, you’ve got the same amount as you did four years ago.”
Despite Tuesday night’s wind and rain, Sutton said, “the Trump supporters wanted to be counted.”

still counting? Not the most able folks in the world. Hawaii does need a viable opposition party. But this republican Party is not going to make it. Something else is needed.
Donald Trump has answered the call. Check the caucus results. “If you take away the Trump supporters, you’ve got the same amount as you did four years ago.”
Abortion on demand, same sex marriage is legal. Can’t you find something else to complain about now that you have everything you want. Leave the republicans alone. Hawaii with essentially dem/liberal stronghold over the decades is not very high on the list of any positive category.
We do however, seem to have more Cranky Old Men per capita than pretty much anywhere else in the US.
