Hawaii’s two road wins last week were a boost to its conference playoff hopes but did nothing to help its national ranking. On Monday, the Rainbow Warriors dropped a spot to No. 9 in Monday’s AVCA Division I-II Top 15.
Hawaii (12-9, 7-9 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) traded places with Pepperdine (10-6, 9-6), with the Waves moving to No. 8 after their upset Saturday at then-No. 3 Stanford.
BYU (16-2, 12-2 MPSF) replaced Long Beach State at No. 1, receiving 17 of the 20 first-place votes. The 49ers (18-3, 12-2 MPSF), who lost to then-No. 5 Ohio State on Saturday, received two votes and dropped to No. 2.
UCLA (19-3, 13-3) and Ohio State (17-3, 9-1 MIVA) both moved up a spot, the Bruins to No. 3 and the Buckeyes to No. 4. Stanford (15-3), 13-3 MPSF) slipped two spots to No. 5, while Penn State (13-4, 7-0 EIVA) stayed at No. 6 and UC Santa Barbara (14-8, 9-7 MPSF) remained at No. 7.
Hawaii has the week off and returns to action when hosting UC Irvine (7-13, 5-11 MPSF) on March 25 and 26.
