MILFORD, Conn. » The family of a teenager who was stabbed to death by a classmate inside her Connecticut high school after rejecting his prom invitation has filed a lawsuit alleging the school didn’t adequately respond to signs the boy was capable of violence.

The lawsuit was filed Tuesday by the mother of the victim, 16-year-old Maren Sanchez, who was killed at Jonathan Law High School in Milford in April 2014.

The lawsuit alleges that Maren had told the guidance department that the assailant, Christopher Plaskon, was emotionally disturbed.

Plaskon, now 18, pleaded no contest to murder earlier this month.

Plaskon, his relatives, the city of Milford and its board of education are defendants in the suit.

Milford’s school superintendent says officials would “allow the judicial system to determine the outcome.”

This is very sad. But why do schools have to become responsible for EVERYTHING, including a crazy boy who can’t handle rejection? If schools are responsible for raising children, why doesn’t the government just take the kids away from parents when they are born, and give them to government-assigned parents/teachers? That idea is ridiculous, but so is holding schools responsible for rotten children. I understand the family wants to sue an entity with a lot of money, but our society is really getting ridiculous with these lawsuits.

I get what you’re saying but what if kids have told teachers or counselors about the kid and they did nothing? I am not sure we have all the facts.

You make a legit point about human greed and how people are quick to sue entities with money. As for this particular story, let’s wait for more details and see if it’s about the family going for the bucks or if the school counselor was negligent and ignored clear signs of potential violence. Condolences for their loss.

Make sure the parents pay their fair share. Take their house if need be.
