The commander of the 25th Infantry Division, Maj. Gen. Charles A. Flynn, has been named a deputy commander of U.S. Army Pacific at Fort Shafter, the Pentagon announced last week in a slew of general officer changes for Hawaii.
Other top-level command change decisions might not be far off.
Flynn assumed command of the 25th Infantry Division on May 2, 2014, and could head to Fort Shafter in the summer. A replacement for the Schofield Barracks commander hasn’t been named yet.
Flynn’s new assignment was among seven Army general officer announcements made by the Pentagon affecting Hawaii.
The others:
>> Maj. Gen. Todd B. McCaffrey, a deputy commanding general at U.S. Army Pacific, will become commanding general of First Army Division East, Fort Knox, Ky.
>> Maj. Gen. Christopher P. Hughes, chief of staff of U.S. Army Pacific, will become commanding general of U.S. Army Cadet Command and Fort Knox, at Fort Knox.
>> Maj. Gen. Mark J. O’Neil, deputy commanding general of the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center, will become chief of staff at U.S. Army Pacific.
>> Brig. Gen. Sean A. Gainey, deputy commanding general at U.S. Army Cadet Command, will become commanding general of 94th Army Air and Missile Defense Command at Fort Shafter.
>> Brig. Gen. Patrick E. Matlock, deputy commanding general for the 25th Infantry Division, will become director of training at the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, in Washington, D.C.
>> Maj. Gen. Edward F. Dorman III, commanding general of 8th Theater Sustainment Command at Fort Shafter, will become director for logistics at U.S. Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.
Separately, Gen. Vincent K. Brooks, the commander of U.S. Army Pacific, has been mentioned as the possible next head of U.S. Forces Korea by the Washington Times.
And Gen. Lori Robinson, commander of Pacific Air Forces at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, has been nominated to lead U.S. Northern Command in Colorado.
