Shirokiya closing Thursday for two months
Shirokiya is going to temporarily depart from Ala Moana Center as the retailer focused on Japanese merchandise and food prepares to open a bigger store at Hawaii’s largest shopping center.
The locally owned company announced today that it will close Thursday and reopen sometime in June with its previously announced Japan Village Walk concept that includes a bigger food court and beer garden.
Shirokiya is holding a sale of some retail items on its mall level next week.
The new store will feature an 800-seat food court with 50 vendors and five beer stations, six Japanese traditional product shops, or Nippon Komachi, a shopping alley reminiscent of old Kyoto with regional crafts and artisans, an area called the Guardian Spirit Sanctuary featuring the 12 animal signs of the Japanese zodiac, and an event and performance area.

If you have a favorite vendor at the food village, check with them to see if they are in on the move. Reportedly the buy-in to secure a space in the new “village” is far from “rural” prices! Many cannot make the required fee from the daimyo!
cool..good store. Local friendly
About the only thing I still like about Ala Moana Center is the food. At least that’s still good.
I can hardly wait for the larger and improved YataiMura !!!
Hope they don’t raise the beer prices…. burp !
They used to have the best electronics store on the Island, I have had no reason to go in there since that changed.
And it won’t change. Electronics are low margin items that are financially infeasible to compete against discount retailers and Amazon. Maybe they could have some Japan domestic market items, but not run of the mill items you can get off BestBuy’s shelf.
i love Shirokiya.
Smart move to expand.
I’ll be there eating the andagi.
The store will actually be smaller! The food court is bigger.
Japanese love to travel so they can visit Japan in Hawaii.
And racists will jump at every opportunity to spew their hate.
Bingo!!! So true.
